After heavy wind down Portugal now we have peaceful condition when rounding Capo
De San Vincente. Later the land wind gives us some good sailing approaching Lagos in the Algarve. We like Lagos so much – we stay there almost 20 hours and that
only because we don’t want to leave in the middle of the night. Possibly a bid
unfair, but we had a cultural shock being in the middle of mass tourism – will give Lagos a second shot one day. We were leaving without
knowing where to go – just cruising down the Algarve coast ending up in Villamoura Marina. With being used to tourism now we stayed in Villamoura
some days, especially because a large British law firm had there annual meeting
there and yes, lawyers know how to party.
...... Peace full sailing ... moderate half wind most of the time
...Entry to Lagos marina
... Villamoura's marina dates from the 1970s and it's big, with room here for upto 1200 berths. Plenty of space too for cruisers of up to 43 meters to moor here. It's the biggest marina on the Algarve for leisure craft, and checkout the choice of shops at Vilamoura Marina. Everything from Boutiques to Pottery to Perfume shops are there and lot's of boost too.
... Street of Gibraltar ... who has been there knows what I'm thinking ... The universe may not always play fair … but at least it’s got a hell of a sense of humor – Street of Gibraltar, Wind and current against us. No easy way in.
... the Rock ... we didn't stayed, were on a schedule to Malaga ... Axel needed a (means his) girl
...doesn't he look relaxed now. Every men should have one ...
... This Gentleman is called Swen and he is a professional Golf tournament organizer and in his free time a banker. It would however been usefull somebody explaining him that Golf is played on green, not sand.
... we tricked ourself into Puerto Banus - this is where the real rich guys hang out which means that (as I learned) the women are older and the drinks more expensive then in Norway. They also have lot's of whores there, excellent ice cream and football bars and cheaper beer in second row. I can not deny that we had two days fun there. When leaving I also learned for the first time an essential skill for Catamaran sailors in the Mediterraneans which is how to free your boat out of a mooring line that magically found his way into your propeller. After trying for 2 hours to be sensible I figure out that a knife is really useful and I never tried differently since then. After being 2 hours in still cold water I was so under cooled (Never underestimate water, I should know that) that I trusted in Axel bringing us somewhere useful. We ended up in Benemaldena - the cheap version of Puerto Banus but for me one of the best Marinas I visited so far. I really liked it there, nice stuff, lot's of Bars and Restaurants and endless beaches. We stayed for almost 2 weeks and made a crew change. But the ice cream was better in Banus.
... Michael and me using energy drinks to stay focused
... leaving Benemaldena with Michael - Axel says "thank god, I survived, or something like that"
... yes I know, but he was my only crew and I didn't want to piss him off so I said nothing.
... trying to add WIND
... Michael's dream was always to become a Taxi driver - so I switched of the Wind and we used mainly the engine on our way to Mallorca. At WP QR71 we were already on the way to Ibiza when we decided that a little bit more Costa Blanca would be nice. We had a BILD Travel guide for Costa Blanca which we used as harbor guide. We ended up in Alicante (Nice) and Denia (Not our taste). As we didn't like Denia we decided immediately to leave with North East 4-5 direction Ibiza despite warnings from Marina stuff that wind is too strong. It became the best sailing day during the whole trip - 8-10 knots all day and sunshine. Our final stop before Palma de Mallorca was Marina Arenal at the Playa del Palma. We arrived around "white sun" days and Michael were meeting friends to play with. I myself spent my days with reading classical literature and thinking about how to make the world a better place - you bet.
... some Photos from the trip - the left one from Arenal at the Playa de Palma in Mallorca - a surprising peacefully Marina giving the fact that one kilometer away some 40K people partying without stop
